I am an artist, I am a wife, I am a mother, and I am an atelierista. This is my blog. Here I will share my experiences as a new atelierista in a Reggio-inspired school in Miami, Florida. The school that I am a part of is unique in that our focus is on environmental stewardship. We are a “Green School” and I am very proud to help bring such a special philosophy to life.

This year marks many changes in my life. This is the year my daughter was born. She is beauty realized and I completely adore her. I should mention that I’ve been happily married for 7 years and have an amazing 2-year-old son. They are my treasures but my daughter has given me tremendous joy this year and, somehow, she has made me a more confident person.

This is also the year that the school I have been joyfully a part of for 7 years is relocating. We were located in a large building that was once one of those Christmas stores. What it had in indoor space it lacked in outdoor space and, being a Reggio-inspired school with an emphasis on environmental stewardship, we really needed the outdoor space. I was overjoyed when I heard the news. All the possibilities for the outdoor space makes me so happy. I am lucky enough to believe whole-heartedly in the vision of my boss. She sees the beauty in the world and has impeccable taste when it comes to her school. I am constantly inspired by her.

Lastly, this is the year that I will realize my dream of becoming an atelierista. For those of you that are not familiar with the term, an atelierista is basically someone who facilitates meaningful projects with children, who helps children develop their ideas using the whatever medium (or other form of expression) the child prefers, and who works with teachers to help bring depth and continuity to the projects going on in their classroom. This is my dream job. This is my happiness.

This year, these changes…I’m so excited to discover what lies ahead. Wish me luck!
